East Surrey Textile Group Workshop for children: Lucky Letters
East Surrey Textile Group is a friendly and enthusiastic group of stitchers (from beginners to very experienced) with a great programme of speakers and workshops for all things textile related.
They run a thriving group for young people between the ages of eight and sixteen, who meet on Saturdays about six times a year, getting involved with exciting craft and textile projects. For further information about the group, please visit the East Surrey Textile Group website.
We are delighted that the group will once again be holding two pop-in sessions at Reigate library on Saturday 21st June as part of Reigate Summer Festival. The children's taster session "Lucky Letters" will run from 10am-12pm, suitable for ages 7-11 and children must be accompanied by and adult.
Participants will learn how to stitch their initials on a cover for a notebook, with an emphasis on applique and simple embroidery.
Spaces to attend the workshop are strictly limited. To book a slot please email kate.ferrier@surreycc.gov.uk at Reigate Library to avoid disappointment. Free entry but donations welcome.
Lino Printing Workshop
Reigate College's Head of Art, Chantelle Shekyls will be running a Lino Print Workshop to encourage more people to take up this hugely rewarding print form, that can easily be continued from home, with just a little know-how and a few essential items!
Suitable for beginners and those who’ve done some lino printing before, aged 14 and above.
Produce six hand-printed cards to take home with you, using either your own design or one provided.
Cost: £25 per person (no concessions). Booking details to follow.

How to plan a crime story! – Creative Writing Workshop with Niki Mackay
Ever thought about writing you own crime novel or short story? Come and learn the basics of plotting crime fiction with author Niki Mackay. This workshop will teach you a little about beginnings, middles and ends and you will come away with some fun plot points for your own story.
Aspiring writers, don't miss this golden opportunity to learn from an established author - Niki will include a writer's Q&A as part of the session!
Niki is a novelist and short-story writer specialising in the darker areas of fiction. Her debut novel, I Witness, was shortlisted for the Luke Bitmead bursary and was published by Orion in 2018. Her latest novel The Due Date, published by Headline, made it to no. 13 in the UK Kindle charts, 65 in the USA and was no.1 in 3 categories.

Singing for the Soul Workshop
Find your voice in this fun, 90 minute singing workshop! Whether you dream of joining a choir, a band, or just love to sing, all are welcome, any age. Led by Nikki Franklin founder of The Franklin Music Centre (St. John’s, Redhill), this session invites you to sing, connect, and enjoy making music together!
Under 16s need to be accompanied for the duration of the workshop.

Salsabug – Salsa Dance Workshop
SalsaBug are delighted to be bringing their intro to Salsa workshop for new beginners to the Reigate Summer Festival. No previous experience or partner required! Join Salsabug's very own Paul & Wendy to master the basic Salsa steps and have lots of fun along the way with this uplifting rhythmical dance!
Known for their infectious energy and ability to inspire confidence on the dance floor, Paul & Wendy have created a welcoming space where everyone- from beginners to experienced dancers can thrive. Adults Water Colour Flower Painting Workshop
Come and wind down with watercolours in this 90 minute painting workshop. Local artist Kiri from Kiri Jones ART, will guide you in creating an array of spring and summer flowers as pictures to take home!
No experience necessary, just a desire to have a go at water colour painting in a supportive space.
Suitable for 16yrs+. All materials will be provided, but it's recommended participants bring an apron or old shirt with them.

SalsaBug
Paul and Wendy Marcel, owners of local Salsa dance company SalsaBug, will be showcasing some sizzling moves together with other members of their dance groups during their Salsa demo and 'have a go workshop' OUTSIDE the front of Reigate Methodist Church (on Reigate High Street) - between 3pm and 3.30pm pm on Saturday 21st June.
With their fun and exciting teaching style alongside their vast expertise this will be an interactive workshop not to be missed!
Come along and see this fabulous showcase and be prepared to have some sashaying fun either watching the fabulous dancers or joining in with Salsa's intoxicating rhythms.

Adult Street & Commercial Dance Workshop
This class is open to anyone who fancies a boogie! 'Street dance' stands for freedom and creative expression through movement, and 'commercial' encourages you to be strong, sharp and sassy! Led by Sophie Holder from SN Dance local studio offering hip-hop, street & commercial dance styles. In this fun session you will learn choreography to a tune you can't help but move to!

Mindful Movement and Breathing
Ease into Festival Sunday with this session of gentle movement, combined with restorative and energising breathing and visualisation. Led by Nicki Day, experienced Qi Gong Practitioner and founder of 'Chi Yana' Energy & Movement Community.
This standing practice is open to all abilities, but can also be done seated if preferred (please consult your health practitioner prior to taking part if you have any health conditions).

Do you love theatre? Come along to this friendly lunchtime session to enjoy reading excerpts from iconic playscripts; exploring theatre styles and directors' approaches and discussing current live productions. Collage Paper & Picture Making
Enjoy a creative session of collage paper-making in this 90 minute art workshop. Have a go at making papers then use your materials to produce a picture to take home! Led by Jane Wardle, local artist, sculptor and creator of the Reigate Summer Festival Puppet!
No experience necessary, just a desire to have a go at this enjoyable art-form in a supportive space.

Unlocking Improv: Soloing for Musicians
Love playing music but unsure how to start soloing or improvising? Bring your instrument and explore blues and rock soloing in this 90-minute workshop. With guidance from experienced musician Nikki Franklin, founder of The Franklin Music Centre in St. Johns, Redhill, and support from a professional rhythm section, you'll gain techniques and confidence to create your own solos.
