Young Poets Workshop @ Basil’s

A chance for young and aspiring poets (no experience necessary, beginners welcome!) aged 7yrs to 11yrs to join a fun session enjoying their favourite poems and then creating their own with support from workshop leaders. After the workshop there is an opportunity to perform their chosen poems and their own work to friends and family on the Basil's Performance Poetry Mic!

Run by Richard Oldham, performance poet and curator of local RAW poetry events. This is one for the young creatives - come and have fun with words!

Workshop is 1.5 hours with breaks, parents are asked to remain on site. The performance stage will then follow from 12.30pm to 1pm.

*All participants are asked to bring a print-out of their favourite poem*

Ever thought about writing your own crime novel or short story? Come and learn the basics of plotting crime fiction with author Niki Mackay. This workshop will teach you a little about beginnings, middles and ends and you will come away with some fun plot points for your own story.

Aspiring writers, don't miss this golden opportunity to learn from an established author - Niki will include a writer's Q&A as part of the session!

Niki is a novelist and short-story writer specialising in the darker areas of fiction. Her debut novel, I Witness, was shortlisted for the Luke Bitmead bursary and was published by Orion in 2018. Her latest novel The Due Date, published by Headline, made it to no. 13 in the UK Kindle charts, 65 in the USA and was no.1 in 3 categories.

Niki is also co-founder of The Story School a creative resource to discover your own writing style.
