In this fun and interactive session, Storyteller Helen, will invite children to pick an object from her bag and together will weave a tale about it. Where will your imagination take you?
Suitable for ages from 3 years and up. Entry on a first-come basis. Free event, donations welcome.

Young Poets Workshop @ Basil’s
A chance for young and aspiring poets (no experience necessary, beginners welcome!) aged 7yrs to 11yrs to join a fun session enjoying their favourite poems and then creating their own with support from workshop leaders. After the workshop there is an opportunity to perform their chosen poems and their own work to friends and family on the Basil's Performance Poetry Mic!
Run by Richard Oldham, performance poet and curator of local RAW poetry events. This is one for the young creatives - come and have fun with words!
Workshop is 1.5 hours with breaks, parents are asked to remain on site. The performance stage will then follow from 12.30pm to 1pm.
*All participants are asked to bring a print-out of their favourite poem*

Drawing Workshop with BONE HEAD creator Jamie Gregory
Join BONE HEAD creator Jamie Gregory for a wild mix of chaos and comedy, featuring live drawing and a chance to create your own characters of the underworld. This highly illustrated bone-shakingly hilarious adventure will be sure to top every child’s wish list – perfect for fans of comics and Loki.

Meet a Local Author and Book Signing – Lucas Maxwell
Lucas Maxwell will be visiting Waterstones to sign copies of his debut YA novel; A Million Tiny Missiles All At Once; a stunning and thought-provoking story and winner of the Times/Chicken House Competition 2024, which sees a neurodivergent teen desperately trying to bring his fragmenting family back together again.

Release the Story Within! – Creative Writing Workshop
Ever wanted to try your hand at creative writing but were unsure how to get your words onto the page? Join Rob Walton-Kinghorn who, with nearly 20 years experience teaching English and Creative Writing at Reigate College, will use stimulus texts to help guide you into producing your own short story. No experience necessary, just a positive attitude and willingness to get your creative juices flowing!

The workshop will take place upstairs in the White Attic at Somers Hall.

How to plan a crime story! – Creative Writing Workshop with Niki Mackay
Ever thought about writing your own crime novel or short story? Come and learn the basics of plotting crime fiction with author Niki Mackay. This workshop will teach you a little about beginnings, middles and ends and you will come away with some fun plot points for your own story.
Aspiring writers, don't miss this golden opportunity to learn from an established author - Niki will include a writer's Q&A as part of the session!
Niki is a novelist and short-story writer specialising in the darker areas of fiction. Her debut novel, I Witness, was shortlisted for the Luke Bitmead bursary and was published by Orion in 2018. Her latest novel The Due Date, published by Headline, made it to no. 13 in the UK Kindle charts, 65 in the USA and was no.1 in 3 categories.
Niki is also co-founder of The Story School a creative resource to discover your own writing style.
